for the grandparents

  • LOTV- twice as nice
  • Neenah classic crest cardstock
  • Copics- C00,0,1,3,4,5,6. E21,50,51,93. RV91. R81,83,85.
  • Lawn fawn- large stitched rectangle stackable
  • Wink of Stella ‘clear’ glitter brush marker

I was asked to make a grandparents card to say congratulations on the arrival of twins. As I was struggling to find the perfect sentiment, I created a custom one digitally and printed onto cardstock. I then stamped my image above the sentiment and coloured it with copics. I used stitches stackable dies to cut the cardstock and patterned paper into panels. These were simply glued down flat to the card blank. I added a touch of sparkle to the hearts to complete.

  • Wink of Stella ‘clear’ glitter brush marker

  • To make this card, I stamped my image and sentiment onto cardstock. I coloured the image with copics and die cut into a panel. I cut a mat of patterned paper to fit the card blank, leaving a small white border and glued into position. I then added the panel with the letters beneath and finished with a touch of sparkle on the image.

    teddy at play

    • Hunkydory for the boys: teddy at play
    • Hunkydory essential book of sentiments 2018
    • coordinating cardstock
    • Gold mirri card

I cut away a section from the open edge of the front my card blank to create a reveal to the inside. I covered the inside with one of the inserts from the set, trimmed to size. I covered the front of the card blank with the cardstock from the collection so the printed bear image became the main feature. Following the sketch, I then cut a band of coordinating cardstock, matted onto mirri to create the border edge. I took a sentiment from the book and positioned this overlapping the band to complete the card.

    Rainbow thanks

    • Lawn fawn- louie’s ABCs dies
    • SU!- simply wonderful stamp
    • Tim holtz distress ink pads- festive berries, candied apples, carved pumpkin, fossilised amber, mustard seed, mowed lawn, peacock feathers, salty ocean, shaded lilac & dusty concord
    • Watercolour cardstock
    • Black cardstock
    • Black funky foam
    • Archival ink pad- jet black
    • Landscape dl cardblank
I cut a piece of white card stock to the size of my card and used the ink pads to create a rainbow background. I used a lot of colours to get a smooth blend but you don’t need to. I then lined up the alphabet dies onto the background and cut, keeping all the pieces. I stamped the sentiment underneath. I trimmed the background down and layered onto a matt of black cardstock, then glued to the card blank. To add depth, I die cut the same letters from foam and glued them into the gaps on the background, topped with the saved cardstock pieces. I love how simple but effective this card is.

    • Tim holtz ‘squeezed lemonade & fossilised amber’ distress ink pads
    • Archival ‘jet black’ ink pad
    • Wink of Stella ‘clear’ glitter brush pen
    • Sequins
To make this card I firstly stamped and coloured my image using copics. I added a touch of sparkle to the pink details on her wings (although this doesn’t show on the pictures). I then decided on a layout using the sketch and stamped the ‘thanks’ sentiment in place.

    before
I felt this was a little too much blank space, so I added a ombré of yellow to the card blank to create a background. I then added a few sequins for embellishment.
Although the yellow turned out a bit darker than I planned and the card is possibly too fussy. I quite like it and feel it is more appropriate for the recipient.

    thankyou stars

    • SU!- so very much
    • Archival ‘jet black’ ink pad
    • Watercolour cardstock
    • Tim holt distress ink pads/reinkers
    • Pixie powders
    • Silver star sequin/ embellishments
To create my main panel, I brushed water on to a piece of water colour card. I squished the ink pad onto a palette and added some water. I used a big brush to pick up the colour and touch it to the wet cardstock. I added a small tap of coordinating pixie powders over the top to add shimmer. I left this to dry, removing excess water if necessary. You could use mica powders and reinkers to do this technique if you preferred.

Once fully dry, I stamped the large sentiment stamp slightly off centre, then added the smaller phrase to the bottom corner. I cut the panel down to size and matt and layered onto some black cardstock. I glued this onto the front of my card blank.

The final touch was to add small star embellishments to the card, I think this helps balance the design and completes the sketch. I like how this card uses distress ink to create quite a soft and pretty finish.

    • Metallic silver thread

I used the floral image stamps to create my background. I die cut this using a largest rectangle die. I coloured my images with copics. I also used a silver ink pad and the tiny image to fill in some of the spaces between the flowers.
I looped the silver thread and placed it in the corner of my card panel. I die cut the ‘thankyou’ first from black cardstock and glued it in place, (this also holds the thread in place). I then die cut the words from silver Miri cardstock and glued this on top, slightly off set to create a shadow.
Since I am posting this card I wanted to keep it quite flat, but felt it benefited from the slight dimension of the words and thread.

    sew lovely

    • lawn fawn: sew lovely stamp set, zig zag rectangle stackables
    • SU!: bloomin' marvellous stamp set, soft suede & early espresso ink pads and oval, scallop oval & banner punches
    • at you spica glitter pens
    • white card and small paper scraps

I die cut two pieces of card using the zig zag stackables for interest. On the first piece I stamped spools of thread all over to create a background. I used glitter pens to add colour and detail. On the second piece I stamped a button in the bottom corner and highlighted with the coloured glitter, leaving space to write.
I stamped my sentiment and cut it out using the oval punch. I used a scallop oval punch and a piece of coloured card to make a mat. I found coordinating patterned papers and punched into banners. I layered all of these together and positioned onto my spool background. To complete my note cards/ postcards, I glued the panels together back to back.
I think these are simple but a cute alternative to a card, although it would easily be recreated as a card front and insert. These are sewing themed (see more below) but you could use this idea for all themes by changing the stamps used.

    • Sakura glaze pen #849
    • Wink of Stella ‘clear’ glitter brush pen
I first cut a piece of card to cover the front of my card blank. I stamped this with the writing notes background stamp, using two colours to give the full note paper look. To do this, I carefully just inked up the lines I wanted red, stamped then cleaned my stamp and repeated with the blue. I used the Misti to help make sure it all lined up. If you didn’t have a Misti, it would be easier to just carefully apply both colours of ink to your stamp then stamp all at once.
I then stamped my bird image and sentiment in position on the card and coloured these using copics. I added glitter to the ‘thank’ and glaze pen to the ‘you’ and the birds eye. I think this just adds a bit of detail to a simple card.

    • kraft cardstock
    • vintage lace ribbon
    • paper roses

I cut my background papers to size and glued the top section directly to the card blank. I added ribbon to the top edge of the second piece, securing the ribbon ends on the reverse, then glued this onto the front of my card blank. I stamped and coloured my main image on Neenah cardstock, then die cut into a circle. I diecut a larger circle from kraft to mat and layer. I created a custom sentiment by combining several stamps and masking off certain sections to create the saying I wanted. I die cut this into a smaller circle and again matted with a larger kraft layer. Once all of the elements were prepared, I decided on my floral arrangement. As I was using paper roses on wires, I put small holes into the toppers where I would need them and pushed the wire through. I added a small amount of glue directly beneath each rose, then for extra security, I taped the wire in place at the back of the topper.(If you were using flowers without wires or prefer to cut the wires off, you would attach the topper to the card then simply glue the flowers on using hot glue or silicon glue gel.) Finally, I added the completed toppers to my card using foam for dimension.

    for the box:
    • a3 kraft cardstock
    • lawn fawn- Finley's ABCs
    • LOTV- country lady paper pad
As the flowers are raised from the card, I made a simple box with lift off lid to fit my card perfectly, instead of an envelope. I then decorated the lid with die cut letters to spell out the name, using the left over paper from the card. I think this adds an extra personal touch and a professional finish.
